How to analyse this error: "Database open error: D:\Lotus\domino\data\mail\xxxx.nsf Database is currently in use by you or another user"
Hi all,

I'm often receiving this error message on the domino console.

I have tried following things:

*Disable backup
*Disable diskeeper (defragmentation tool)
*Disable antivirus

We are running Win 2003 R2 and Lotus Domino 8.5 HF460

Does anyone have some advise how to resolve this issue?

I have seen this error a LOT since upgrading to 8.5.0.  It seems to be triggered more by the Notes 8.5.0 client than the server.  For some reason the Notes client does not release a lock on the database after it is closed.

e.g. I can create a database, open it, close it, and then try to delete it and I am quite likely to get the message.  The Admin console will confirm that nobody has the database open.

My suggestion would be to upgrade to Notes 8.5.1.  I'm not sure a server upgrade is needed based upon my suspicions it is a Notes 8.5.0 bug.

If you're running something like Symantec, make sure that you disable the real time protection on your Domino data folders as that might be locking the files.  I've seen that happen with my servers.

Thx for the responses guys.

Disabling the real time scan wasn't a solution for me. I disabled all the Officescan (Trend Micro) services on the server.
